I always questioned why I am always confused, so many tasks and just 24 hrs to complete them. Thought it's just my mind and my habit of picking up more than required passions but never realised that the horrific condition of my room was playing a subtle role in shaping my dilemma.

Thank you for diving in! Bahahahaha - I know, I realized it pretty late into the game myself. It can do wonders for you to take a moment to look at the aesthetics of your surroundings.

As someone without much of a temperamental interest in minimalism, this is the most interesting/appealing description of that general approach that I've seen. Your early mention of the moralization of tidiness works wonders for framing the rest of the piece; thinking about it now, I think this moralizing tendency is commonly implicit in other accounts of decluttering. Now I get why I've been resistant. Nice work!

I've always done this! Keeping the tops of desks, dressers and nightstands totally clear. Even the kitchen table, when not set for dinner.

I told myself that a clear desk would allow me to place anything down upon it for examination at a moment's notice; a clear nightstand would contain nothing to knock over, should I reach blindly for a bottle of water in the darkened room, or for my stalwart handkerchief.

But I think that I was actually leaving space for *ma*, without even knowing it. I've written better than ever in my current office: three of its walls colorfully painted, but bare. I've been stacking up a few subs, and my thoughts finally have enough room to breathe.

Now, if I could only *completely soundproof it* and install a small fountain with circulating water, I'd own a genuine writer's paradise = )

I don’t usually slow living material, my feed seems flooded with it. However enjoyed the structure and content of your piece. When my son was diagnosed with cancer I overhauled the house, no there is just me and I lived tiny and compact. It is far easier to be content.

The Meredith Grey line made me cackle. LOVED this. You're inspiring me to want to get rid of 75% of what I own.
